What strings to get for my Yamaha RBX375

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings,

Recently I bought a new Yamaha RBX 375 and figured I should change the strings that was already on it as quickly as possible.
Basically it's a 5 string having passive humbucking pickups and active electronics.

More information about the bass can be found here:
http://www.yamaha.com/guitars/produc...62&CTID=600009

As for playing style I mainly use fingers, but I also tend to slap quite a bit.

My plans are to use the RBX as the main bass a metal band I play in. However, being a metal band, some of the songs include elements of slapping. This means that I can't have one dedicated bass for playing slapping and one for finger style since I switch between these two types of playing within one song.

I should also include that in the future I plan to practice more on using harmonics.

For effects I use a Korg ToneWorks AX3000B, meaning I have some possibilities for changing the sound within songs.

Of what I've read and understood I should go for some kind of roundwound nickel strings, but I may also be wrong ^^

Would appriciate any answers and suggestions to some specific strings that can fit with my taste in music and playing style

The RBX375 has quite a bit of mid-range focus...A string that sounds a bit more "scooped" would compliment this instrument...for this reason, I would recommend that you go with a set of stainless strings...try a set of DR Lo-Riders...

I'm not a metal player and don't slap but for what it's worth I have Ernie Ball regular Slinkys on my RBX-375 and they sound great to my ears. DR strings are a good choice too.

Thanks for the feedbacks

Forgot to mention that (at least for the moment) I tune down the E to a D. Not sure wether I am going to drop the B to an A as well, time will show.

Started to look around for the DR Lo-riders, but since I'm in Norway, it seems quite difficult to obtain these. Suppose I can try looking at eBay for 'em...

DR Hi Beams

I use DR Hi Beams with the 130 B string on my RBX375. We tune down 1/2 step and the bigger string helps keeps the neck tension set right. I use a 125 B String on my Warmoth, but I don't tune it down. I also use Hi Beams on my 4 string Ibanez. DR all the way!!
