What strings are good for HARD speed metal?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone,
basically I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what strings are good for Speed metal/death metal/progressive and stuff like between the buried and me, cannibal corpse, Job for a cowboy, etc.

I use a pick mainly (please dont kill me) and im trying to train my hands to use a 3 finger method.

Im looking at anything with good growl and anything that will stand out in the mix. Right now im deciding whether i should get some D'addario prosteels or DR lo-riders....

please help since bass strings arent exactly cheap.

D'Addario XL's are a very good start, I'd say. Versatile strings that don't cost an arm and a leg. They last quite a while too!

Elixirs are great too, soundwise. Not as bright initially, but they hold their tone quite a while! Not sure that their price vs. lasting-ratio does the cost justice so far, however....

DR LoRiders are the most intrusive strings of the bunch. Very mid-range heavy out of the box! They have quite a top-end to them as well. You might have to re-EQ with these, but if you're looking for some real in-your-face strings, these might be it.

My vote however goes with the D'Addario XL's.

Rotosound Billy Sheehan set, the E string is kinda heavy (.110) but I love it!

i remember having 2 sets of d'addario XL's one was a 105 set the other was a 110. the 110 went dead kind of quickly...but the other one lasted me 4 months. but they were the nickle ones, and ever since i got these rotosounds Im connverting to stainless...
