What strings have black ends?

OK, this might sound goofy, but... I haven't played my Highway One Precision in a while and it has strings on it with black cloth where they go into the machine heads... Might be the original Fender Super Bass 7250ML that it came with, I don't know - all I know is I usually use Lakland strings and that's not what these are. I kinda like the way they sound on this bass and I'm just trying to figure out if they are indeed Fender's original strings or, if not - what brand has the black ends? Hmmm... any ideas?

Well, I might have answered my own question as I found that the photo of the Highway One from the Fender site shows the strings and they do have black ends... most likely i never changed them. Sheesh - I either gotta play this thing more or sell it...

Yep, Fender strings have black ends (sounds painful!).

7250s are the only roundwounds I use anymore since I have recently changed all my passive basses over to flats. I like them. They last quite a while before going dead and have a very usable sound.

Fenders use black silk wrapping. So do several others, but I can't tell you which ones. All I know from personal experience is Fender pure nickel and nickel plated roundwounds are black, TI Jazz flats are red, Ernie Ball Slinkys, Super Slinkys, Hybrid Slinkys and DR Sunbeams don't use any.

I just put some GHS Pressurewounds on and they have black silk windings.

laBella Hard Rockin Steels...sound like a deeper Rotosound and retain their tone longer than Rotosounds
