I'm a big fan OD dean markleys blue steel strings. The are steel and 'cryogenically frozen' so I find they are really bright and stay that way for the longways I have found. They get my vote!

Do Coated strings count? then definitely Elixirs. Great feel, too!

I just finished a 2 month test of a new string for them and the sound at the end of 2 months is about the same as when I started.

For nickel, Elixir Nanoweb. For stainless steel, Sadowsky Blue Label.

DR Hi-Beams. They don't even start wearing in for me until I've had them on a couple of months.

+2341472456723 to DR.

It takes them months to break in fully, even with heavy use. As long as you wipe em down, anyway.

Why write off coated strings? There are several coated brands that sound just like regular strings, and last a lot longer.

If string life is important, it would be really smart to consider coated strings. I have found the Ernie Ball and DR coated strings very close to the sound and feel of uncoated, and they last and last.

cause i assumed that they would not be as bright or metallic sounding as uncoated, but it is just that, an assumption. i have never used coated strings

I have been a life long rotosound user until I recently got some DR neons. I bought them because they look cool but they sound and feel amazing! If they last as long as I'm told they do I will continue using them. Bought them off Amazon for $23.

Of the strings I've tried flats keep their tone and feel the longest. If you are talking about rounds I've had my best results from DR Lo-Rider for stainless steel, and D'Addario for nickle.

Holding new crisp brightness the longest: unquestionably, Yamaha strings. Very tough to find. They have a reason why they use them. I have NEVER seen anything like Yamaha strings. However they aren't cheap and very tough to find. They are arguably unique as they generally have a very heavy E & A and a light D & G. Appear to be simple stainless steel, yet have a thicker "winding" than many standard strings like Roto's D' Addarios or GHS.

My vote to the opposite (to loose their brightness the fastest) would be Erney Ball (all types) they just don't stay bright. The "settle in" for a particular sound and stay that way however. GHS's seem to go down-hill and keep on going; yet start bright.

I tried the neon's a couple months ago and I know what you mean. When I first put them on, I got a sick tone (especially for slap) and the feel was the best I've ever felt. But it was a matter of only 3 or 4 weeks before this was all gone.

But I love Cleartone Strings. Last forever and feel pretty nice.

Stainless steel strings stay bright the longest but you'll also need a refret sooner.
