What strings intonate "longer"?

The saddles on my bridge are as far forward as they'll go but the strings are all still a bit flat. They are light gauge Circle Ks. What can I replace them with that's going intonate better with a longer string length? Bigger gauges? Different material? Please help!

How far off are they? Make sure you press down on the string right where it breaks over the saddle. There's a good chance that will fix your problem.

They're all like an eighth flat.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

He should try pressing at the saddles first before he breaks out the drill.

Bigger gauges or a non-tapered string so that a full thickness goes over your saddle

that would move the string intonation (saddles) even further from the bridge (more toward the neck) which the op is trying to avoid.

As per above, thicker gauges and non tapered strings would help, if not relocate the bridge.

I had a 5-string D'Addario set around and gave it a go--intonation is a lot better right now, especially on the strings that were tapered on the Circle K set. Close to perfect. Moving the bridge is not really a viable option.

I miss the sound of the Circle K low B so maybe I should try bigger Circle Ks.

Maybe try a non-tapered B string. Plenty of B string singles to choose from here:

Yeah, an eighth-step is a long way make up on a string bend at the saddle...... I once welded up some saddle inserts for a stop-piece set-up to go sharper. I shoulda patented them.....

Non-Tapered is going to be the way to go...

Yeah the non-tapered .135'' D'Addario intonates perfectly. Thanks guys. I guess I'll stick with these for a while, I wish the Circle Ks could have worked but plugged in the D'Addarios sound nearly as good. This bass just "sings" with Circle Ks though.

I wonder if I could stick some kind of grommet or washer behind the ball end to get the taper to be a lot closer to the saddle or behind it... Anyone done such a thing before?

It's a custom-made Frankenbass.

You could do that, but it wont effect the intonation length as the saddle is still at the same height with the taper on there...

I didn't know the saddle height was the reason the intonation was off.

Yes whenever you change saddle height you have to check intonation.

Aware of that but I thought the taper affected intonation in more ways than merely saddle height.
