What sound are you trying to achieve? What style of playing will you be using the most? Do you play aggressively or smoothly? What kind of music do you play?
Strings are like girlfriends, no one can tell who the right one is but you.

i like to play aggressively but when i do the strings on here rattle a lot, they're not the original esp strings cause the person i bought the guitar from changed them so if i wanted to use a pick and strum as hard as i could what would you guys reccommend?

Learning better pick technique as the first thing Id reccomend. Cause when your force driven rather then fast twitch muscle driven. Your gonna lack the ability to do expression, precision, and yes even better easier speed when thats what your going for. Sure play with power when its called for. But recognize that force isnt the whole thing for power.

How much rattle is a lot? And to what extent is it hurting your sound. What a bass sounds like unplugged isnt what it sounds like plugged in thru the speakers or headphones. A fair amount of fret rattle, so long as notes arent fretting out. Can improve a basses voice imo. Making it more aggressive and in a fashion, articulate. The latter in a way that makes it harder for the bass to sound weak in bass heavy music.

If you use overdrive, musical fret rattle sounds even better imo.

2nd suggestion is learn to do action adjustment. Just changing strings isnt going to help with fret rattle if their same gauge and tension. But adjusting truss rod and bridge or just one of those if called for. Will affect string rattle.

Strings suitable for aggressive sound that I really like are Rotosound swing66 and DR neons & sunbeams. The rotosounds will prob rattle a little more then what you got on their now btw. LOL

Minimum .105 on bottom - maybe a .110-ish set if you want to remain brutal.

...And the first few times (at least) you're going to get it quite wrong and end up dissatisfied and demoralized.

Waking this thread up...I just picked up a EDWARDS E-T-170BD and it needs some new strings..Unlike the OP I don't play aggressively but do play a little heavy handed at times, fingers 90% of the time, a pick on a few songs..I play mosey classic rock, some oldies, southern rock ...Looking for rounds that are warm out of the box and that don't have a floppy B string...Any input from you guys would great...Thanks
