What Strings Would Be Good For My Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'll try and make this short. My first bass was a p-bass knockoff, and the neck was all messed up, and I had to raise the bridge to stop fret buzz, and it had somewhat crappy pickups; long story short, it played just about the same, but it had a really heavy woody sound that was really unique. I'm doing a good bit to it, but the only thing that could really change the sound is that I've installed Fender original '62 pickups. The g-string broke, but I would want new strings anyway.

What strings, in your opinion, would match the low, punchy, somewhat metal sound it had? I have only played whatever Silvertone puts on their bases, and whatever the previous owner of my Squier Jazz put on such, so I don't really know the much of what the difference is; I have noticed that bass strings cost a good bit more than guitar strings, so if they cost a bit much, that's fine.

Low and punchy goes well with Rotosound swing 66 and DR neons imo. They also have nice metallic edge to their tone.

I was looking at those strings, and the neons are just slightly over what pocket change I can spare on strings right now.

I was looking around, and I was thinking GHS Precision Flatwounds, because they're really mellow, and I think they would allow the odd setup to really come out. Your opinion(s)?
