What Strings for your Fender Jazz?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just put on a new set of Fender Super Bass strings on my Fender Jazz bass and they went dead within two hours. man these have a short life.

What strings are you guys using on your fender Jazz Bass? or a set you are happy with?

I use Elixers (Nanowebs) on my jazz. Brightest strings I've ever used. I've had them on for about 4 months and i still love the tone i get from them.

On all my Jazzes I have either D'Addario XL's or Chromes. I've used Prosteels in the past with good luck as well.

TI jazz flats

listen to "turbulance" on my bands myspace for an idea of what they sound like.

DR hi-beams are also nice too. the other song "Be a Man" was recorded with those.

I switched strings from rounds to flats halfway through recording

URL is in my sig.

Yep, I used the F Bass tapered (which are La Bella custom sets) on my Marcus Miller 5 Jazz... great midrange. Don't have a great bottom but the bass itself brings out lots of brightness. As a comparison, I use the same strings on my BNF-5 (Fretless with ebony fingerboard). Plenty of bottom.

I have tried several strings on that MM5 Jazz, the DR MM didn't suit me, found them too coarse, lack of definition I should say. I also tried Zon with hexcore, they were fine, but kinda big for the bass (size I guess). The B was just bad, floppy.
So far I am pretty happy with the F Bass strings. The highs ring without being harsh and the B string very is tight.

I'm using D'Addario Half Rounds and they're pretty cool. They don't have that round wound harshness in the highs but they're not as mellow or muddy as flats. And, they feel really good.

I think I may just try the F-Bass strings. If they don't work out then it is back to the trusty Rotosounds.

If the Super Bass died that fast for you, I would go steel. I like Labella Hard Rockin' Steels. DR Fat Beams or High Beams could be good...

Fender Super Bass nickels. They are just getting comfortable after 3 years.
