Taper wound strings

According to a discussion on this website,

http://acapella.harmony-central.com/...t-1453003.html

they seem to taper at the bridge end.

The outer wrap tapers to a smaller diameter towards the ball end of the string. This puts a smaller diameter portion of the string in contact with the bridge.
