what are these flats?

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a set of flats in a trade, and the guy who I got em from said he got the strings off a bass he got in a trade. They are stainless steel, I think, and they have black silk (it feels like felt actually, compared to silks on other strings) wraps on both sides. They are medium tension (way lower than the fender flats I also received) and they are pretty mellow and quite (when the fender flats are pretty bright and loud/clanky).

Thanks

Hmm, black silk would make me think those are La Bellas (would also fit the tone description), but they only have black silk on the headstock side. Sorry, dunno...

If the winding under the black silk has very wide spacing compared to other strings, and the silks are only on the tuner sides, they are probably LaBella 760 FS (standard gauge). Do they look like they are sprinkled with pixie dust?

FL have red silks, FM have Blue, and FS have black.

Fenders had green on the bridge end. Unless they have more than one flat.

This is what I was going to say. Lakland JO Flats are GHS and they have black silk and meet your description. I cannot remember if it has silk on both ends though. I think they did. My guess is GHS or Lakland (same string).

GHS Precision flats have purple leaders, not black.
