what to try next

Okay

I have heard many players talk about how much they love flats. I am really trying to find a sound that I like using flats. I have a fender MIM with a 62 reissue pickup
eden wt800 and 410xlt

I have went to buy fender flats and I am left disappointed
what should I try next?
I am looking for a deep nice p bass tone, but with some definition.
I am very interested in finding this tone so that I dont have to change strings very often.

Is that really true or a myth that flats last for virtually ever?

What sort of tone settings would help get the most from flats with the setup that I described?

I dont want to spend the money on expensive strings if i dont think that i will have a reasonable chance of success.

thanks in advance for your help

D'Addario Chromes give you a lively tone but still sound warm. For your situation, I would recommend them.

You will like the Chromes. They will take several days to settle in but you will notice a really nice strong fundamental tone on the lower strings right away.

What kind of sound are you after from the flats?

Chromes are bright with lots of upper mids but with strong fundamental.

Labellas are more traditional , thumpy sounding, fairly dark

GHS and Dean Markely are very dark sounding, no high end at all

TI's are midrangey sounding with strong treble , very low tension though

Rotosound are about the brightest flats around.

Hope this helps

I've got a set of TI's on my Precision, and I wouldn't characterize them as having strong treble. I consider the term bright and having "strong treble" to be synonymous, not so? Bear in mind that this is the first set of flats I've owned, I have little frame of reference, having used Roto roundwounds previously.
