What are your favourite string for a Fender P-Bass

What are your favourites? I was thinking of putting a set of Rotosound FM66 (30-90) string on there, but they're quite light and i'm not sure i'll get the best from the bass.

Whaddya reckon? What is your favourite for a Fender P?

Maybe some Rotosound nickels or perhaps some Daddario chrome flatwounds , the extra fundamental of flats will really sound good with a P Bass and the Daddarios are bright sounding enough that it wont sound muddy. However my faves at the moment are the Ernie Ball flatwounds, hated them at first as they are quite bright at first (for flats) but the twang soon goes.

If its a Pbass, its gotta be flats man. I've tried Rotosound RS77 flats and Fender ML flats, both great for pbasses. The Roto's were a bit brighter than the fenders, but the fenders had that quintessential THUMP.

I have five P-Basses and do keep D'addario Chromes on two of them...But my favorite strings on a Precision are D'addario Nickel Wound Rounds...I love them ! ! ! !

I have one with D'addario XL nickels and one with Fender flats. The one with D'addarios gets the most play, but I dig the flats as well. It doesn't "gotta be flats" on a Precision, BTW. Rounds sound every bit as good on a Precision.

+2.

I tried others but Chromes and XLs give me exactly what I want to hear from a P.

Fender 7250 rounds and 9050 flats are nice as well.

Strings that didnīt quite work for me on my Ps are Rotosound Nickels, GHS Boomers and all kinds of steel rounds.

I use Fender 9050 ML strings on my P-Basses. I prefer D'Addario Chromes on my other basses, though.

Hard to believe I'm the first to say: TI flats. That's what's on mine right now. If they stopped making them, I would wait 5 or 6 years. Then I would probably go with D'Addario Xl's until I found an old bass with TI flats on it, take the TI's off it, put them on the P, put the XL's on the old bass and resell it.

Labella flats for the classic sound
Rotosound rounds for the "other" classic sound

Chromes or DR Nickel LoRiders for more "modern" variations on the above . . . .

D'Addario Chromes for flats, GHS Boomers for rounds.

Rounds on a P bass are what I consider to be the best bass tone available.

Chromes all the way for me. Deep and fat, yet clearly articulate; and I like the tension.

OMG! Ok i have read for a year or more about chromes and i have been tempted to try them. i have tryed Fender flats which are ok and i like Fenders rounds. I use alot of SIT strings i get them dirt cheap never over 20.00 a set since i live in Blimp City where they are made and they last forever with good tone. I dont like their powerflats thou tension is like playing steel rods to me. So i bit dropped the 30.00 and got chromes and put them on my new/used P bass for my new blues and 60's acid rock band WOW! so nice right out of the box tension is almost like a round wound and these suckers are super slick and sound like sex....Yea!
