Whats are the best strings for Ric 4003?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am in need of some new strings.. The ones on my Ric seem cheap and have broken from taking them off and putting them back on, making them too short to stay in tune.

So what are the best sounding strings for a Ric? Could someone link me to a site (preferably Canadian) where I could buy them?

Thanks

-Curtis

I want kind of a punchy, treble sound... Geddy Lee on Exit... Stage Left. I am guessing Rotosounds? If so, what kind?

I personally like DR High Beams Stainless Steel, they're very bright and punchy. Lo Riders nickel wrap are a bit duller, but still bright and punchy. I used to use Rotos, my complaint about them are that they die fast and eat up your frets like crazy.

I've heard DR Sunbeams (nickel) are the ultimate Ric string! (apart from the Rotosounds- but the Roto- sound comes at a price- I noticed considerable fretwear in only a couple of weeks on one of my basses with the Rotos!). I definitely love the Sunbeams on my all maple vintage Carvin, its no Rick- but has the same woods + growly single coils (like a Rick) and the Sunbeams bring out the best of these qualities- amazing midrange!

I used to use Chromes on my 4003BB which doesn't sound like what you are looking for but I used pro Steels on my 4003MID.

try the rickresource, although you may be pointed in the direction of Pyramid flats

I have ProSteels on my Ric. Ridiculously aggressive.

DR SUNBEAMS

I've had these great strings on my Ric for over a year, and they are still bright and edgy!

I typically go for an even more aggressive sound than Geddy Lee - his hero, Chris Squire of Yes.

I know Rotos will get that sound, because both players used them, but the Sunbeams are way smoother, nicer to my frets, and just sound awesome...

PM me, and I'll send a file via AIM, with me playing my Ric strung with them, and through a Mesa Bass 400..towards the end of the song, my bass sounds very Geddy/Squire-like, as I dig in harder and harder, yet it also can be very full and round, with that slight "ring" at the top of the note when plucked softly...
