What's Causing That Sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently put a set of Ken Smith Compressors on my P bass. Now when the E String is played open it has a ringey bell like quality instaed of a meaty low thump. I've used these same strings before on many basses and never had this problem. Has anyone had this same issue?

Is it twisted?

You can also try pushing down on the string on both sides of both the nut and the bridge saddles to help them settle.

Rewind it so it sits lower on the peg.
