What's the consensus on strings for a stingray?

I'm getting a used Stingray that is strung with D'addario half rounds. I've not had enough time with the strings to pass judgement yet, but I will probably try something different. Is their a type of string that marries well with the Stingray?

The consensus is usually Ernie Ball Slinkys on an Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray (from the posts I've read) with most of the other suggestions being for a more "quality" roundwound that are very similar to Ernie Ball - aka, DR strings... you might get a "do a search" comment too, as this comes up all the time... of course, I could be wrong, so let's see if you get thos responses or not.

My vote - Ernie Ball Regular Slinkies (nickle) in the green pack, or maybe the lights in the pink pack if you like less tension... but never ever, IMO, ever buy those gawd-awefull "power" slinkies (the heavy gauge) unless you are tuning down at least a whole step.

I've come to believe that strings are an entirely personal thing and the only way anyone is going to know what works best for them is by trying everything.

Soooooo many variables go into what makes a string "likable" to someone. To name a few: tension, the sound they're looking for, the way their body chemistry affects the strings, how often they play, how much they sweat or don't, the amp they use, their speaker size, the way they hit the strings, the way they EQ the bass, where they play on the string, how thick the pads are on their fingers, if they use a pick, the guage they prefer, how they wind their strings, the effects they use or don't, what kind of music they play, how hard their drummer hits, I could go on...

All that being said I always used D'addarios, just fell in love with Fender strings, and don't like DRs.

i have 2 sets of strings i switch between for what i'm playing at the time. I'm currently playing in 3 different bands; a cover band, a prog-punk band and a Metal band. For the cover band i use Fender 9050 45-95 flats, and for the other 2 i use EB super slinky 45-100's. it's all about the feel. i like to be able to slip back and sit in the pocket with a nice mellow tone, and with the other 2 bands my basslines stand out a bit more. play around with different guages and brands, find what feels right

Really like the DR Sunbeams on my Stingray 5HH. They feel great and bring out the natural growl of the MM and don't 'clank' the way the stock EBs do. Totally agree it really is a personal taste issue, these just happen work perfectly for me.

I like the 50-105 slinkys that bump in the G sting gauge IMHO helps the weak G string syndrome

Does the stingray normally have issues with the G string? I though that was the reason for the different tuner configuration.
