Where to buy flatwounds for cheaper and/or in bulk?

I am tired of paying 40 bucks for a set of flatwounds at music stores. I noticed that musiciansfriend.com has them for 30 bucks, but I'm wondering if anyone knows a website where they sell flatwounds really cheap, or in 2 or 3 packs.

thanks

There is usually a big, bold ad at the top of this page for www.juststrings.com

I second webstrings, and their Detroit Flats are, well, they are unbelieveably awesome! They remind me very much of the DR flats I have on another bass. I have the Detroit's and DR's strung up right now so I can do an A/B comparison anytime, and I do not dislike the DR's, far from it. However the webstrings feel and sound equally fantastic and are 19 bucks a set!

Kinda depends on the brand you want where the cheapest place is, too. I like La Bellas so I went through Elderly Instruments since they were cheaper there at the time. I'm somewhat surprised by the need to buy "in bulk". Who changes flatwounds so often that they need a bulk purchase? Really, I'm interested and not just snarking.

Well I know that usually buying things in bulk is cheaper. You know how they sell 2 packs of roundwounds for cheaper. Or look at costco for example. I don't need to change them very often, i just want to save money. And it would be nice to have a spare set or 2 around so if I break a string I don't have to run to my local music store and pay 40 bucks.

Thanks for the help

I guess if you have the money to buy the number of sets to get a discount and can keep them around for new basses or the dreaded string break, it makes sense to do it. I don't think they'll ever go bad in the package. Prices tend to go up as well, so it might not be such a bad idea to have a few lying around.

I have DR's on my Carvin 5 and love them. Such a different feel than those HiBeams. Question - how often do you (want to) change them? The strings aren't that lively when new.

I used to buy my LaBella's from bigcitystrings.com but, Leo's Pro Audio over here in Oakland is selling them for like $20 now. I think they do some web business too but, the shipping will probably make it more expensive.

One thing I try to keep in mind when buying things on the internet....

"Sometimes when you search for the absolute lowest cost strings, you may end up simply with cheap strings"

Labella deep talkin' flats for $26. I just got a set from Imperial guitars for my jazz bass.

Also, the carvin flats are made by labella IIRC. $21.
