Who Makes the Best E String?

Sign in to disble this ad
Lots of discussion here about who makes the best B string, but who makes the best E?

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest D'Addario. They consistently have very, very good E and A strings; rich and harmonic, vibrant.

Not a fan of D'Addario; Ernie Ball Slinkys work for me. Very well balanced.

roto I guess. My favorite strings, I don't notice them as being "unbalanced"

The tension on some brands seems more even than others. La Bellas, TI, DR, seem to have more even feel across all of the strings.

D'Addario D and G strings always seem a bit too tense, compared to the E and the A. But, the E and A each sound great.

I have the medium scale strings on my full scale bass and theyre pretty even. When I had the long scale ones I did notice the G string was looser.

Never cared for D'Addario. I'll say Dunlop and DR.

If ever you are curious - near-every E string is a three wrap string no matter who makes it to my understanding.

Mine (.096, .100, .106) are all two wraps. I believe it makes a difference - but then I got a dog in this fight.

Are your core diameters slightly larger than the average string?

The difference is made up mostly in the outer wrap - a far more supple string than most

OK...this makes sense. Now I think I understand how Circle Ks retain elasticity while simultaneously achieving a higher tension at pitch when compared with other brands of similar/identical gauges.

...I look forward to trying them.

As do I.

I think daddario pro steels are too noisy. Too many overtones, not enough fundamental.

Normally its be whomever makes your fave A,D, & G strings. LMAO. I like Rotosound and GHS, Ernie Balls can also be great with some basses.

I like apples. I also like oranges. I also like a .105 DR Hi-Beam.

Has a vision of some weird eccentric bass player whose 5 string bass has 5 diff brands of strings on it based on fave brand for each string.
