Who makes flatwounds that can be strung through the body?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a few bass that have string through the body bridges. I'd like to string up one of them with flatwounds but everything I've come across so far (Chromes, Ernie Ball) aren't long enough. Any recommendations?

While I personally haven't used the 36" length, you may wish to try the Thomastik Infeld JF364's. My brother uses the 36" round JR364's thru the body of his Fender with no problems. Actually, a lot of folks use them.
I use the JF344 set on my Laklands and string them thru the bridge as I can't discern any advantage or tone change thru the body. Others, may.

The Chromes come in a "super long" set, but I don't know if they would be long enough to do a through the body job.

I know from personal experience that TI JF364's will work. I had 'em on a string-through Gibson RD Standard.

I strung Chromes through the body on my G&L L2500. They were plenty long enough, I think I got the super long scale.

I have D'addario Chromes on my string-thru Stingray. I DO remember when I got them one wasn't long enough & I had to order a single longer string.

Unfortunately I'm not positive which one it was, though the silk on the E looks a little different & that first one being short kind of makes sense. It would reach but I do remember the thinner section (meant to go around the tuner shaft) was running through the nut so that probably IS the one.

I searched my email but couldn't find the order, too long ago. Sorry I can't be more specific. Hope that helps.

I bought the super long Chromes for my Fender 51 reissue, strung through the body, and they fit perfectly.

I have a set of Thomastik Infeld JF364 strung through the body of one of my Precisions. No problems.

Chromes and TI Jazz Flats, regular long scale, have been fine through-body for me, on a Fender Deluxe P, a Deluxe J, and a J with 2Tek.

GHS Precision Flats will be long enough. So will DR High Beam Flats.

La Bellas will probably be long enough, although I'm not sure. They fit fine through the body of my MIA Precision.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like I may be trying the GHS Precision Flats or the XL Chromes.

Roto flats also work as string through, both tapewound and regular.

GHS Precision flats will fit anything from 34-36 inch scales. On some 34 inch scales the string past the silk wrap may come close to the post though.
