Who plays FAT strings?

What type of music do you play.

I've been playing with some guys lately and it seems like almost everything they do is tuned to D or lower.

My strings at this time are .45/.65/.85/.105 I find that they flop around too much for my liking.
Would bigger strings help this?

Pros/cons would be great. Thanks to all.

I use flatwounds that are .052w, .073w, .095w, .110w
I play blues, jazz, funk, rock, everything with them.

105 on the e the pretty big, you just need strings with more tension, the flats I play have lots of tension. Not sure about the other strings, the gauge might affect that, I've never used a g below 50.

Y'know, there are strings that are made for detuning, like the GHS Boomers set H3045 that are .050-.115. Rotosound makes the BS66 set (Billy Sheehan sig.) that are designed for an E-string D-tuner (or DADG tuning). I would imagine that Ernie Ball Power Slinkys in .055-.110 would work for detuning as well.

They do, indeed.. I'm using that set for D-G-C-F tuning. I also really like the La Bella "D tuning" set of Hard Rockin' Steels, 54-75-90-111.

I now like using a .105-.110 E string. Though, my A, D, and G are .80, .60, .40. I used to like only like light's, either .40-.100 or .40-.95. Now that I've been slapping more, I like the feeling of the think E string. And it turns out I like it when I play pick and fingerstyle.

I use a conklin .150 for my low(tuned to A) string, and the top three out of whichever 5str set I feel like trying out that day. If you want some real tension at D tuning, try the top 4 from a .130-.135 5str set.
We've been labled slightly in the "Doom" genre, but I liken us to more Melvins/High on fire.
Also try bringing the pickup height down a couple of mm to cut down on the clack. This is a big problem I've been slowly working out.

The Sadowsky and the P in your avatar are beautiful btw.
