Who uses Fender strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
Having played so many poorly set up Fender basses in shops, I've always dismissed Fender strings ... but I just got a bass in thats strung with them (I believe) ... and they're really cool strings! They've got solid burpy and full mids, great harmonics, and a nice round yet somewhat bright top.

I believe they are Fender Nickels, they feel like a stiff 40-100 set, and have dark blue silks. Anybody else using these? Does that silk color match the description of Fender Nickels?

I'd search, but the forum won't let you search on the word "Fender".

I use 8250's on my Fender Am Dlx Jazz V, and they are great as well as cheaper than many other brands. They work quite fine for me on that bass.

fender nickels came on my Tony Franklin P-Bass. i believe they are a Tony Franklin signature set. 45-105. however, i have not seen this set for sale anywhere. good strings. i like them. they remind me of GHS Boomers, but maybe that's just the nickel talkin..

I'm using the rounds that came on my MIA on another Fender of mine. They sound pretty good. Not sure which ones they are though.

I use 7250's on my Squier, and they sound great. I used the 8250's on the fretless I recently sold, and I was well-pleased with them as well. However, I have since installed DR Black Beauties on my Geddy, and Labella tapewounds on my P, and I plan to use one or the other to replace the Fenders. The Fenders sound pretty darn good, but the DR's...wow...

DR high beams are my standard ... and usually they're unbeatable but on this bass I'm digging the rounder thicker sound of whatever strings these are. They kind of remind me of sadowsky nickels. I had the hi beams on this bass and went back to these blue silked jobbies.

I've actually got a slinky E on here since the E that came on the bass was dead ... and the "fenders" are similar but sound thicker, rounder, and are more stable and smooth feeling.

I use them on some of my basses ... the nickel 45-105s
They seem to have a pretty even tone and are easy on the fingers and frets I have a set on one of my Ibanez ATKs and may use them on my 76 Jazz in the future.

... For punchier mids and even more smoothness I prefer the GHS "Pressurewound" strings.

I think it's a lighter purplish blue, but not sure sure. The bass is upstairs and I'm too lazy to walk up there right now to check. Maybe I have it on a picture somewhere. I'll check through my pics.

I have 9050's on my Jazz and the 4.5 year old rounds (the ones that came on my Jazz) on my Hot Rod P. They have black silks that are BARELY there but are only dead enough to sound halfway decent.

Thanks ... from the photo it looks like its one of the few with silk on the ball end, so that seems right. Looks black in the photo, but I'm sure thats just the photo quality.

So they're probably 7250s. They're going to a rehearsal tonight ... we'll see how they work.

Those don't suck!

Its really rare that I try a new string that I don't hate. It was actually really interesting to have a slinky for the E and the rest of the set the fenders. The slinkys have more growl, but the fenders are just wonderfully round and big sounding. Coin toss. The fenders were perfect for copping old school flat-like sounds, but with the sustain and coherency of rounds.

ID my Fender Strings

Alright, came on my 2006 MIA Jazz. Rounds, turquiose-green or gray (depending on how you look at it and the light) wraps at tuner end. At the bridge end, E is thick and then gets really thin after the saddle (I think that's what's called Taper). Gold/Brass ball ends.

Those are most like Fender 8250's. I use those along with 7250's on many of my basses.

From time to time i use the Fender Stainless strings , and they are great. Great clarity , yet very warm sounding. Though they die pretty fast.

7250's gauges are 40, 60, 80, 100.
8250's gauges are 45, 65, 85, 110TW
I think the 7250's come on the MIM standard basses,Hwy one basses,MIJ/CIJ basses and other Fender non graphite neck basses,
8250's come on Late model MIA graphite reinforced neck basses
Like series basses MIA dlx basses, FMT basses etc.
