Who's got TI Flats on their Jazz?

I've got DR Sunbeams on my '62 reissue Jazz and thinking I'd like to try TI flats next. Anyone want to share their experience with TIs on their Jazz?

I've got a '62 RI and use TI flats; they sound great. They have plenty of low-end punch and good top-end and mids, as well. I was having a bit of neck-bow problems, also, and the TI's low tension took care of that. They seem to last forever, too. I had the first set on the bass for about a year when I broke the E string during a moment of over-exuberance. I probably would have left them on for another year if that hadn't happened.

Good cut and growl on my 61 J. Not as much bottom as I would like but this bass is always a little bottom shy. I love the way they growl and sit in a mix.

Have them on a Lakland Joe Osborn USA 4 string. Love them, great low end and mids, the longer they are on their the better they sound and feel.
I think you would like them!

They're amazing on my 08 J. They can do everything from an upright thump to a Jaco growl, and most everything else. They don't lend themselves to slapping (being flats, and expensive ones at that) but just about anything else is right at your fingertips with a J wearing TI's.

Thanks for the input, gents. I'll likely keep the Sunbeams on for a while yet but next in line will be the TIs. I've been really happy with TIs on my P-bass and Jack Casady, and I'm heading towards having them on all my basses if I keep liking what I'm hearing.

Hey guys. I put TI flats on my P-bass some time ago and immediatily loved the sound. However, as the strings got older I got more and more a ugly, nasal fingersound out of it (it's not my playing, my teacher also tried it out and said the same thing). I may have washed them at some point; is this what caused it? I guess you're not really supposed to try and "clean" flats the same way you would with rounds.

I have TI Jazz Flats on my Peavey Foundation. The combo of the TI's and the Super Ferrites gets exactly the tone I want. I was gassing to buy one of those Ibanez ATK's. But why spend the money, I love the sound my bass makes. I do want to refinish it though.

I don't know why that would happen. My first set of JF344s was on my P bass for over 8 years and just settled into a warm, rich sound but still with the right amount of mids and highs. I didn't really need to change them when I did, but I had a new spare set of T.I.s and figured 8 years was long enough. Pretty inexpensive-about less than $8 a year. The new set has been on for a couple months now and they sound wonderful as usual.I also have them on 3 other basses. I sold the J type bass last fall with 2 year old T.I. flats on it. They were a selling point. The guy who bought it fell in love with the sound and feel.

I never had any problem with a "nasal" sound or any ugly sounds as long as I kept my chops up. Bad technique and sloppy playing can get you some bad sounds. I clean my strings once or twice a week, either with a bit of rubbing alcohol or with GHS Fast Fret and a soft cotton cloth.

I love the sound of these strings and prefer them over all the other flats I've used over many years. I like the sound and the slightly lower tension.

I don't slap or tap though and don't like the Jaco sound.
