Who's successfully used a 0.025w or 0.028w for high-F?
I'm increasingly dissatisfied with the high F strings I've been using (either 0.18p, 0.20p, or 0.22w) and am wondering if anyone has managed to use a heavier-gauged (0.025w and upwards) F string on a gig without it blowing apart when hit semi-hard.
I'm aware of the relevant theoretical tensions for a string at that tension; wondering if anyone's managed to make it work, is all.
A .025 at C is about 3 pounds beyond its tensile strength - it might sound good if you can get it there but I wager it doesn't last long. Any higher than that is folly.
