Why Bronze?
 

Every acoustic bass guitar that I've looked at had those bronze phosphor strings until today. I came across a used Fender (unknown model but w/string thru bridge) that the previous owner put on a set of Daddario flat wound bass guitar strings. Sure killed the string noise when you moved your fretting hand. When hooked to an acoustic amp it was a really nice sound too.

So here's the question. Why do acoustic bass guitars usually have the bronze strings?

Oh hey, here's another question too. Why are string thru bridges so rare vice the string pin bridge?
