How does it work, couldn't you just wash it out afterwards?

I know, I don't boil them, but I was curious about the pot, cause it's never been explained past 'my wife yells about me ruining pots'

Never had a problem boiling strings. As you say just clean up the pot afterwards no different that cooking anything in a pot. Boiling strings cleans out the built up gunk and brings them back to life. People have been doing it as long as the electric bass has been around.

oh. at first i thought you meant potentiometers. and I was going to say, take your strings off first.

You shouldn't boil them, just leave them soaking forever.

Boiling isn't a bad move, but a soak in denatured alcohol is much more effective. Boiling returns the new string sound, but only briefly. With alcohol, the strings usually go through another cycle as long as when they were new.
