Pyramid Gold Flats are exactly what you're talking about. Dead right out of the package and they don't change for years. That's why I love them. I use them to get that warm, thumpy Paul McCartney sound. The only issue is that they can be expensive.

I think string manufacturers depend on their customers continuing to buy new sets. Also, to those guys who love their thumpy old strings, check your intonation.

My intonation is always spot on, and my '62 P bass never goes out of tune with year old Pyramid strings. It sounds consistent at every gig.

Those Pyramid Gold strings sound interesting indeed!
I got to give them a shot sometimes. Now, I really enjoy those GHS Precisions 95-45. I mostly play Reggae music and they give me this old Studio One vibe when recording through a tube pre-amp. You can almost smell the weed coming from the speakers...
The TI's I had previously, had some kind of soft upright/woody character to them, which was cool, but it was a little too "nasal" in the mids and not thumpy at all even after 2 years. To me they only sounded good when muted or played with a pick.

Dang! If I had to do it again, I'd choose "Flat Dead" as my sceen name!

I'm almost certain you can get dead strings out of the box by purchasing some no name strings for practically nothing. On a side note, a local pawnshop near where I live sells used guitar and bass strings for a dollar or two a set, I'm almost certain that you could find what you're looking for if you dug through a pile of strings there.
