Because they are zingy and clanky. Different strokes for different folks. And so on and so on and scooby dooby dooby.

I use rounds because I like how they feel and sound, but I think flats sound great for some stuff too. I actually bought some black nylon Rotosound Tru Bass 88's and am trying to figure out wich bass to put them on I bet they'd sound great on a P. Wish I had one.

Exactly. Not all of us play Motown.

Maybe the flatwound sound will have a big comeback, with metal bass players. Somehow I doubt that... --Kent

Rounds are pretty versatile too. You can get somewhat SIMILAR to the flats sound with your EQ and a lighter playing style. I do't think you can really do that with flats. They don't hurt your fingers that much. I mean come on, we're bass players we already have calluses.

Funny how that works...........I can't finda a use for anything other than roundwound..........I haven't used flats since the '70's, and they didn't sound very good to me then, either. I'm certainly not dissing on anyone using flats, just saying that they do nothing for me.

+ 1. I can see the merits in both flats and rounds. It depends on the type of music you play. Some swear by just one or the other.

I agree, i just made the thread because there is one about flats and thought it would be interesting to see what people say. i've got flats on ym basses, but i'm planning to buy a bass to solely have round wounds on

I have tried, as i like rounds a bit but I just can't dial in 'my' tone. Just no way possible. Sure i can Eq the hell out of my bass and amp and get something close but it is no where near the thump and fat bottom i get from flats ... I think my ti flats are very versatile.

I like rounds, flats wouldn't work in any of my two bands because there'd be a huge frequency "gap" between what I play and the guitar player if I didn't use a healthy dash of treble. If I want to sound muted and old school, I simply back off the treble knob.

+3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and 9 and 10 and 11 and 12.

These threads aren't really productive. Sorry.

Play half rounds and you may change your views a bit.

Edit: Like starting a why anything more than 4 strings post. Nothing good EVER comes of it except a few trolls get clubbed.
