Holy crap! You mean that Graham Maby got that tone with flats on Look Sharp?!?

Looks like I'm going to have to try some on my backup bass...not sure if you're doing me a favor!

i use them because i can get every tone i need out of them from funk, to metal / grind, to blues, to jazz. also, they last longer, and there is nothing like the buttery feel of flats.

imo of course.

I like both roundwounds and flatwounds.

I put a set of GHS Bright Flats on my VM 70s Jazz and have been really loving the tone they produce. At my last rehearsal they actually sounded more present, I was very pleased with the results.

Keep in mind that there are as many differences between different brands of flatwounds as there are between different brands of roundwounds.
Try not to judge flatwound strings based on one or two or three experiences.
Most people don't even notice that I have flatwounds until I show them (if they even care).

Let you're bass guitar sound like one

For years I have been playing with flatwounds on my Stingray and I must say you get a more sophisticated sound (neat) Since 2 years I play a double bass and since today I have geared my bass guitar with roundwounds again. This gives a bigger contrast between the instruments. The double bass is a smooth jazz instrument and for the more "rocky" arangements I use the bass guitar with roundwounds. Now I have two different instruments and a wider range of use.

I've played both, and would highly recommend everyone one of you trying out D'Addario Halfrounds. I was given a pack of these to try by a local music shop when they couldn't sell any of their stock. I will never use anything else. They're highly responsive strings, and they retain that mellow flat sound but with the flexibility of round wounds. Like all things in life, I found perfection with this happy medium.
