Metal > Wood

all strings will eat up a board. Proper fingering is much more important (like not too much pressure, vibrato with the string not across the board, etc).

Play what you think sounds good!

I guess technique is always the thing.....
I gues i will have to put flats on it to save the maple... i like the sound to be bright so i guess its GHS Brite Flats or TI Flats for me...thanks

flats are metal and will eventually wear away at wood... I use stainless rounds on my fretlesses.

all will, it's a matter of 'how long until'

What I'm getting at, it put the strings on that you like the tone of... make sure you don't white knuckle the neck and ease up on the BB King style vibrato

James is right. I used flats on fretless for a long time because I was worried about wearing the fingerboard. But the tone was always dark and thumpy which wasn't what I wanted on fretless. When I tried out rounds, suddenly the tone I wanted was THERE! The rounds gave that really pronounced growl and 'mwahh' with lots of singing sustain. Now I'll only use rounds on fretless. They may eat the fingerboard slightly faster, but I don't the difference is as big as some would say.

I've had elixirs on my rosewood fingerboarded fretless for about 5 years now (not the same set though ), played at least 2-3 hours a day and the board wear is minimal
