Will This Hurt My Flats?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have one set of Rotosound flats.

I have moved them two times now from one bass to another to test how they sound on a different bass. Will this stringing and unstringing hurt them?

I imagine over time there will be some effect on the metal, my question is when?

How old are they and do you play them a lot (everyday for more than a few minutes)?

The dings in the strings from the frets will probably be in different places when you reuse or move a string. It just means the string will not last as long, AFIK.

Fretless is less of a problem, IMHO.

I haven't had any problems moving a set of flats from different basses.

I've had one set of TI flats on 5 different basses, hoping to like them on something (alas, not for me.) They did, however, function every time.

The only real bad problem I'd see with this is if the tuning posts are different diameters or one is 4 inline while the other is 2+2... anyway if wrapping around different posts causes the wraps to separate from the core. Any other things like where the frets line up with the strings and the fact they go from tension to non-tension, I guess might diminish their life but shouldn't immediately make them unusable.

yeah permagrin is right i had a set on my MM copy and put them on my jag to see what it would sound like.

with the 3+1 v the 4 inline opened the strings up at the pegs (the strings were like 6-7 yr old hehe im almost jamerson.)
