Windings resting on saddles?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in the process of installing Pyramid flats on a Fender Jazz and the silk windings are resting on the E and A strings. Is that bad and will it effect the sound?

Or do I need to cut the winding back some?

Thanks.

I would burn some off with a lighter. It will affect the sound kind of like putting a foam mute under the strings, but obviously nowhere near as extreme! You want metal on metal contact ideally to help transfer the string's resonance throughout the body, anything soft inbetween bridge and string will dampen the string's vibrations.

Just lightly (lightly) score the silk that's over the saddle with a razor blade & you can pull it right off. Done!
