This would work on my bass...right?

My stock SX string guide (round style) on my 4 string SX Jazz is a royal pain in the ***. It has a ton of sharp edges, the "tunnels" aren't big enough, and I'm just tired of messing around with it.

This looks like it would be perfect for me, a lot simpler to work with, but Hipshot notes it as being for 5 string basses, coming stock on Roscoe 5ers and USA Fender 5's. Is there any reason it wouldn't work on my 4 string SX jazz?

Most 5 string basses have a tighter string spacing so using that on your 4 might squeeze the strings as they go through it. That's the only possible problem I can think of. Hope this helps.

Hmmm.....good point, I hadn't thought of that.

I just found this photo on Hipshot's website though:

....where it's used on a four string. And upon closer examination, it doesn't say that the retainer is specifically for 5-stringers, but only that it comes stock on the above-mentioned 5ers. So it seems that it would work in either situation.

Thanks!

Or you could file the sharp edges on the existing.
Really not that precission a part; just needs to keep some down force on the strings without hurting them.

Actually, if you're giong the Hipshot route, buy the three string one, and get a better pull on the A string too.

Hmm....not a bad thought. It would work on a four string right?-I mean concerning string spacing and all that.
