I'm wanting to dial down the steel string round wound tone of a couple of my basses so I got some Flat wounds and Tape wounds. I'm thinking of putting the Tapes on the Jazz and the Flats on the P. I have another Fender Jazz bass that I'll be keeping round wounds on.
Which would you put Flats or Wounds on?

Fender 62 Jazz RI.
Lakland 44-64 Skyline P.

LaBella flats are the best IMHO

I think your idea is good: tapes on the J and flats on the P.

A Jazz Bass likes rounds or something like the Pressure Wounds I use and PBasses love Flats. If steel rounds are too bright or zingy on the Jazz look at a little mellower nickel or alloy string.

I put a set of flats on the Lakland P last night and am digging the results.
Tonight it's the Jazz...and tapes I think. The strings on my J are 7 yr old rounds
and they've gotten to sounding so Motown I almost don't want to take them off.
I've boiled them twice over the years. But I can always put them back on if the
tapes don't do it for me.
