I use a wound .022 or .024 (can't recall which) from an Elixir guitar set on my 34" scale bass. Works great with the bass Elixirs I have on the rest of the bass. The only adjustment I had to make was to run it through a bass ball-end so it would anchor at the bridge.

Hope that helps.

never thought of that. I would think a guitar string for 25.5" scale would be too short. I'll look into that. Thanks.

tried the guitar string trick with a .024. Didn't have nearly enough output for some reason. Switched back to the bass .025 and there was a huge difference. Different core??? Not sure what else it could be. Still looking for a .023 or .024 wound or maybe even plain bass string.
