wow...45-100 is now my gauge

Sign in to disble this ad
been a long time user of 45-105 rounds on my fretted jazz.

went into my local guitar shop, the only bass string left was a packet of boomers 45-100 i thought screw it i'd wait but then decided oh well i'll give them a go.

and wow, this gauge is so much better, the transition between the G and D strings to the A and E strings feels even. if that makes sense.

and sometimes i have found the 105 E string a bit muddy.

i think this guage rocks now, see how it goes jamming with the band

sweet! hey, congratulations! i've always been a 45-105 guy... and i'm always curious as to why people opt for the different gauges. i'll have to try them out sometime. let us know how they work with the band!

Yeah I love .045 - .100 myself, have for many years. Although right now none of my basses have that particular gauge, hmm. I need to replace some nuts (uhuhuhuhuhuh).

I've tried all kinds of string gauges over the years, and 45-100 is my favorite. EDIT: Nothing feels as right to me as 45-100. I've tried 45-105, 40-95, 40-100, 50-110... but I'll always come back to 45-100.

We could start a 45-100 club! Yep, they are what I always use now.

I used to use 45-100, but found it hard to find that gauge in the strings I actually wanted to try in stock. However, now that I've settled on Lo-Riders, which I'll probably stick with, I might order a few custom sets from DR.

I played .50-.115s once.

Big mistake.

45-100 is the way to go, imho.

I think I got too used to the 45-105s myself, I have tried many times to switch over (especially since its harder to find Chromes in the 105 variety), but it never lasts long- the tenser low strings just feel right to me (although the tension measurement is still less on those strings in either gauge than the d and g strings!) .

I was a longtime 40-95 user. My 5 string came with 45-125(100 E string) so I eventually moved up to 45-100 on my 4 string. Love it now. I recently got a set of Hartke strings after talking to Larry Hartke on the phone but a 105 E seems like it would be much too heavy for me.

On a side note, my buddy had his Steinberger strung 30-80. That thing was impossible to play. He was a guitar player first, maybe that's it.

I try to match the strings to the bass, but more often than not I use Super Slinkys (45-100). Works for me.

I just bought a set of 45-100 SS Lo-Riders from a local music store; they had a few of these sets in stock. I bet if you look online or at some different stores you could find some.

Another 45-100 lover here, although I am now using TI flats which are 43-56-70-100.

Thumbs up 45-100

one more for 45-100!! It feels/sounds much more balanced then 45-105.

also a 100 gauge E IMO has much more clarity and allows more dynamic character to shine though.

100s for me, unless I am tuning down to Eb, then a 105 is necessary.

I'm a user of 45-105 sets. I think I never tried 45-100 or I did long time ago. 45-105 sets are better tension for me. In 45-100 sets A and E don't have the same tension as the G and D strings. (45-105 have similar tension on all strings as far as I know).

agreed! jammed with the band today, my bass was sounding so nice.

the E string had a nice clear smooth punch too it, no muddyness which i reckon got from the 105 gauge.

i'm sticking with the 45-100 guage now

the tension hasn't bothered me, for some reason 45-100 just is more balanced in the gauges and feels right.

but i did notice slapping the E and A strings seemed`different

i don't slap often, only in two songs my band does, if a string has higher tension is it better for slapping?

I like 45-65-85-105-130, personally. when I tried 40-100, it made everything sound so thin. *shrug* I dont know...

I liked lighter gauge strings for years(95s), I always had a hard time finding them since it was before you could get everyting on the internet. I started using 105s in the last six years, and I'm just used to them. 100s don't feel right to me when I slap. But I perfer 100-80-60-40 on my Thunderchief.
