Joel DiBartolo, may he RIP

Joel DiBartolo was one of my heros. He was the bass professor and director of jazz studies at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. His work with the Tonight Show Band when Johnny Carson was host of the Tonight Show, will always be known as one of the bass world's great moments. He was a big supporter of young people in music and always had wonderful, belly splitting jokes about musicians, and bass players in particular. He was the warmest of humans. Those of us who knew him will miss his wise advice and optimistic and subtle direction. His books on bass playing are soon to be staples of the repertory.

We'll miss you, Joel...
