Thanks for your interest in UNT. The number of jazz students accepted each year varies depending on how many people have graduated the previous year. On average there are about 24 jazz bassists in the program and the classical department has about the same. At UNT, undergraduates take 8 semesters of lessons, (4 classical then 4 jazz). Additionally, there are two semesters of Jazz Bass Fundamentals that I teach to new arrivals concurrently with your classical lessons. This is basically a group jazz lesson that meets twice a week. That way everyone gets time with me right from the beginning. Classical lessons are with a different teacher. By the time you are in private jazz lessons, you will have a great technical and conceptual foundation from both worlds.

Additionally I teach Advanced Improvisation III for all instruments which you will take. As you can tell, you will see me a lot at UNT.
