Any Slap Bass teachers in NYC area?

Does anyone have any recommendations on a slap bass teacher in NYC or northern NJ area? I've tried the YouTube things and some self study, but I'd like to expedite the process by learning from a pro. Thanks!

Well most of the greats learned by listening to outher players or by coming up through certain scenes that instilled them with ther style. If you need a teacher find a local band you like and bug the bassist til he will show you a thing or two on the bass

If you can't find a slap bass teacher in NYC, you need a slap.

Go to any good music store and put up a flier. (teacher wanted)

I'm in the process of teaching myself. It's not that hard conceptually, you just have to go slow at first give yourself time for all the muscles to develop. Getting the endurance and finger toughness to get it takes a while, I don't have it yet either just after a few months. I'm going off of recordings. I'm not bothering with triple/quadruple slaps... at least not yet.

not sure if this is considered spam or not (sorry if it is!) but I would recommend playbassnow.com which has tons of free lessons that will help you. It sure helped me! MarloweDK is definitely top notch instructor. He does private lessons online too.

I dunno why I didn't think of this sooner. I'd seek out Pete Coco:

Milt's Rhythm - YouTube

He's in NYC I think and used to be on the TBDB forum. Prolly went into lurking mode.

Website:Bassist Pete Coco

Jason Sypher is the heaviest slap player I've heard in New York. He's so musical. Check out St. Thomas for Solo Doublebass by Jason Sypher - YouTube
