Is there a particular brand/model of each you're asking about?

First thing I'd do is read through the newbie links at the top of the Strings (DB), and the Amps, Mics, and Pickups (DB) forums. Then do a search in each for "Rockabilly", "Slap" etc.

Then browse those forums.

Then feel free to ask any specific questions you might have about particular strings, setup, etc...

Then head over to DoubleBassChat.com (formerly known as Rockabillybass.com) and Djorje Stijepovich's artofslapbass.com and start picking brains there.

Pickup's

I'm loving my Thomastik Dominant Solo's. They're made for Orchestra tuning (F#) so they are a bit squishier.

Has anyone ever used the Rich Barbera Pickup Sensor Bridge?
