Hi and a question to any back-to-front bassists!

Hi, new to the forum so just thought I'd say hello. But also I was wondering, are there any other lefty players on here who just play the bass the wrong way round (ie G string closest, E furthest)?

I played electric for ages just turning the bass upside-down and leaving the strings as they were, as I was sick of getting stiffed for twice the price to get a left-hander and having such a small choice of models. Without thinking about it, I seem to have transferred the same weirdness to upright!!

So I guess I wondered if anyone else on here plays like that, and if so have you found it makes any particular techniques to be harder or easier?! I find slapping on the top (so, in my world, G) string to be a bit problematic, but that's about it and is probably more just cos I'm pretty new to it!

There's a YouTube video of Paul McCartney doing that with Bill Black's old bass.

I do it when I try out basses in the store or sit in with other bands. But I play better the other way.

Jimmy Haslip from The Yellowjackets does it your way. I think some people on Talkbass do too.

Oops. I just noticed your post was in the "Double Bass" forum. Well, the gist of it still applies.
