new guy here

new to the double bass, played electric for a bit and drums(28 years)...decided to switch over to the upright..playing some rockabilly and psychobilly...

i'm having trouble with the E and A strings having a dead sound. i've been told not enough tension on the strings..using weed wackers..today i bought some spacers to put on the end of the string to see if that would help since they are just a tied knot at the bottom.

will the spacers help with the deadness of the string?

Whackers tend to be pretty dead on the A and especially the E. I'd recomend trying mixing Innovation Silver Slaps with the Whacker D and G.

Also, you should check out www.doublebasschat.com. We're mostly a bunch of rockabilly guys and gals over there, and a lot of them will have more experience with the whackers than I have (only played them once), and can give you some better advice.

Welcome, by the way. You've joined the dark side of bass. There's no going back now.

That B/W two-tone scheme is the schizel.

Suggestion: Dye the bridge black as well and black-chrome tuners.
