Just starting to play it. My cousin is in a very popular rock band as the lead singer. He wants to start this rockabilly band and asked me to play the U R B. We are looking for a drummer right now. I think it is going to be a blast, but it is going to be alot of hard work. Thats why I am trying to get the best deal on the best bass that I can find.

Kewl! You will have a blast. I first bought my URB to learn and play rockabilly. I had a few lessons from other rockabilly players and mostly self taught myself by practicing several hours a day. It is addictive. I love it.

My last band broke up about 2.5 years ago and we are just getting back together. I'm so psyched!

I'm a mod at Rockabillybass.com. We recently got hammered by spammers, so Eric personally approves every new signup. And he works very hard at his day job so there might be a short delay sometimes. Nothing personal...just trying to keep spammers from returning.

I too got an upright to play rockabilly, been at it about a year now. I started jamming with some guys a few weeks ago and we play mostly rockabilly stuff, so we'll see how that goes. I also play alot of psychobilly, so we meet in the middle.

I haven't registered at RAB.com yet because I haven't...gotten around to it I suppose? I've finally got everything I need right now, and just check out that board along with this when I'm looking into something new. Partially, though, I got into guitar and my time is now divided. Rockabilly/psychobilly (to me) is turning out to be much harder to play on guitar, but it's just as fun. I scored a great deal on a Gretsch and I'm loving it. A fun genre for sure!

Smile Spammers

Moderators:
You can slow the spammers down a lot by making them use the funky "Match the Letters in this Box" plug-in for your board software. I had the same problem with mine, and this eliminated the bulk of the spammers. The other thing is to require moderator approval of new accounts. That pretty much locks the rest of them out. Also, I forgot to mention, some admin sections require a new member to make two or more messages before they can go live. Most of the spammers are from Asia or Latin America and are robotic, and can't deal with a couple of simple instructions. You can IP-ban any other spammers that were able to penetrate the screen.

Another one here.I'm also a member on rockabillybass.com,and used to play in a band in Minnesota called Trailer Trash.I relocated to Nashville, and have been reh. with a group. We're recording this Sunday at the drummer for Hillbilly Casino's place.(His name's Andy). The guitarist old group was called Jakehead, and that's what we will play under. The drummer is also a Minnesota ex-pat who was also in Trailer Trash. It's lots of fun playing a whole night of nothing but rockabilly.I slap the whole time! I love my old blond MIB Kay with all guts.

Glad to hear you are enjoying learning the rockabilly style. There is a lot to it,learning on your own works well once you get the basics down.

One thing I wish for is a better way to describe the slap technique.Seems like the best way is to post videos of people playing, the instructional videos, etc. But if more people knew how to read music, that would help alot.Even if you could just read rythmn, not even notes,it'd be easier to describe various rockabilly slap techniques and styles.

I play a bit of rockabilly, but mainly folk and blues on upright.

My band WAS Gypsy Wind. We are kind of on again off again.

I am not a member of Rockabillybass.com yet, but I am planning on checking it out.

I have been playing for over 30 years. I played upright in high school, and ignored it after graduation. I just picked it back up this past summer, and am realizing what I have missed out on for 25 years.

Yup, I play rockabilly, and am a card carrying member of rockabillybass.com.

My band is not rockabilly, but I do play a lot of slap bass in it:
