Rockabilly work of art

I was glad to see that rockabilly was here on this site, most traditional bassists see rockabilly slapping as a dirty word, anyway, Ii just wanted to share with you what I am currently making for myself, an aluminium double bass, i will write and feature it as I go on www.midnightrockers.co.uk I have just finished a skeleton sculpture of a double bass in steel and stainless steel, which reluctantly i was asked to sell, so did..ok must Rock on.. Hi.

Welcome to TalkBass Dave.

An aluminium bass has been one of my dream projects for quite a bit now, but lack of free time and the "unhealthy need" to DIY everything (and I mean everythng) has slowed things considerably.

I'll be watching this space closely .

Regards
Sam

Hi.

Looking great.

Here's a direct link for us with a slower connection: http://www.midnightrockers.co.uk/alibass.html

Are You planning to arch the top by stressing with the post(s) or with an english-wheel?

Regards
Sam

Ali Bass

Hey I loove that Ali bass, well done, funny you should mention the arching of the shape, I was on that today, Un fortunately I dont have an English wheel, wait and see if my theory works with wood and the heat of welding and I will let you know.. everything is done using basic tooling, no laser cutting, just a set of Rolls, an EWM 220 ac/dc welder, and some good old traditional sheet metal tools and dollys. how thick a material is the bass in the picture?

Hi.

Looks really great.

If You don't mind me asking, what was the exact arching method?

The "breast" area shape may take some getting used to, but still, a great looking project.

Regards
Sam
