Smile string advice

1. What are you using the bass for (arco, pizz, 50/50, 10%pizz/90%arco ?...)

A: Rockabilly, psychobilly.

2. What kind of sound are you looking for (bright, dark, long sustain, thumpy, gut-like, etc.).

A: Thumpy.

3. What kind of feel are you looking for (high/low tension, thick/thin gauge, etc.)

A: high/low tension.

4. What strings have you used in the past and what did you like/dislike about them (If you don't know what was on your old bass, try to find out what strings they were by providing the silk colors at both ends).

A: Nylon coremetal wrap. E string is yellow on top and all the bottom colors are green. A string is blue. D is purple. G is gray.

thank you.

I play a blend of rockabilly/roots/swing type stuff. In the past few months I've gone through steels, weed wackers, then settled on Innovation Silver Slaps which are nylon. I play more pizz than slap at this point, and I do not bow.

Steels were too dark for me and my type of music.

Wackers were too low tension for me. You can pretty much slap on 'em right away though. I fealt they didn't balance well across each string with respect to tension and tone.

Silver Slaps fealt just about right. Nice balance of tension to tone.

And try rockabillybass.com for a more in depth review of strings used for this type of music.

Who the heck do you think is selling them?

PS: Solo strings, Obligatos slowly switching over to Evahs.

60/30/10 pizz/slap/arco

Rockabilly, Celtic swing, blues and other rootsy goodness

trying to go for a gut-like sound with a little more note definition and sustain than real guts
