Surprised there isn't a sticky for this. How do I learn to slap?

I realized that Django Reinhardt's bassist was slapping, and I saw a video of Ray Brown slapping too and thought it would be cool to learn for older songs. But nothing seems to show the basic technique of slapping. I want to learn the very intro-level stuff to the technique. Now I know that people usually have really low action and gut strings. Are there any other things people use? Not that I would change my set-up i'm just curious. I just noticed when I try to slap my hand is like this.

But the better people seem to have their hand pretty straight

I got the Lee Rocker vid. Worked well enough. Then you'll learn other techniques from various sources.

The guy from expert village is a tool but an ok starting point.
