Weedwackers for gigs?

Just wondering how many people out there are using Weedwackers when playing live? I am a bass guitar player who recently bought a UB for a new rockabilly project and I put some weedwackers on it, with the idea that I would later invest in better strings. I'm thinking that might not be necessary though, with the exception of maybe replacing the E string due to the super low tension. Any thoughts?

I've done it. Lot's of players do.
Personally I found the E had TOO MUCH low end playing through a piezo/amp setup. Swapping the E out for something else is a solution, but finding something that blends with the A then becomes a problem...
With my setup (YMMV as always) it is a lot easier to get a G/D wacker set to blend with another E/A. Something ballsy like Presto lights, Evah Pirrazzi weichs etc. Innovations (silver slaps) are what a lot of players over on DBC go with.

If it works for you, why not? I see people doing it all the time and sounding pretty good...usually they are using something else on the E string though...

I use the "heavy" weed wackers from Tom at Fantastic Musical Intsruments and they have been working great for me. They last about a year and I play three times a week on stage plus daily rehearsals.
