What are we using? Rig Pics?

I was wondering what set ups you guys are all using for rockabilly or psychobilly or slap playing, and I would be stoked to see some pictures, too.

I will dredge up some pictures of mine, some time and return the favour, in the mean time all I have is this picture in the attachments.

Im using a 1990 Meinel Ply bass with K&K Bassmaster Pick Ups and Preamp into an Eden Nemesis 2x10

I play an old Engelhardt C1 with a Schatten RB-1 or Underwood pickup, with Lambert Deluxe strings. (always used plain guts before I found these)

I use an HPF-Pre preamp, or sometimes use a VT Bass pedal if I am in the mood for a B15 fliptop tone.

I am using a GK MB115 combo now with the lower volume country bands I play in. For louder gigs I was using a GK head into two Avatar Neo 2-10s.

Great picture!
How do you guys do that? I am afraid to try this on my 4500$ bass.
But it looks cool.

I can understand that worry. If I had a nice well crafted bass I'd probably wouldn't. One thing is if my leg go through the body or I crack a seam it's my fault that's one thing I know. Standing on it is not to hard. I play the my end pin all the way in so it's as low as it can be to the ground. I also made my own end pin rubber tip that is way wider and has more material so you don't wear it out as fast . I have also cut a flat spot on the rubber foot at an angel so that when I step up on the bass the the flat spot on the rubber foot grips the ground instead of being rounded witch can cause some wobble when you stand on it. I also have small square of grip tape too! when I step up I have grip now. Besides that just a matter of know where to keep your weight and foot placement.

King Doublebass (RIP!) "slap king" with underwood pickup, through the house system if possible, and if not, an SWR redhead combo with an 18 cab underneath.

Plain gut E and A, weedwacker D and G.

My Bass hit the bigtime.

Not me, but my King Upright played the Hollywood House of Blues this Monday. Hopefully, I'm next.

'60s Kay for rockabilly

I've had this great old Kay bass since the '70s but with old steel-wrapped strings and no pickup. I've mostly played a Fender P-bass in bands and just used the Kay for fun and jamming.

I recently converted and upgraded it to use in a rockabilly trio. It is super easy to play now, looks great and sounds killer through an amp. What fun!

With the new set-up (I had to recut the bridge and nut slots for the fat strings) the action is low, easy to play and slaps like a dream. I should have done this years ago.

-1966 Kay S-9 (blond)
-K&K rockabilly system (2-mics & mini preamp/mixer)
-Blue Weed Wacker strings
-Peavey TNT 130w 15" combo amp

I just picked up a GK 410MBE ultralight cab to use with my GK head for louder shows, bigger rooms with no PA, etc and am really liking this cab. It's a super compact 410 that only weighs around 44lbs, and is so small the tens are all touching each other inside, it's not much bigger than many 2-10s I have had but just a different shape. Very nice cab so far.

Only 410 cab I've ever been able to carry in one hand. Plus it handles 800watts, more than I'll need. Sounds great too.

Playing more loud blues than rockability with this rig, $107 ebay engelhardt 1/4 size body with homemade curly maple neck, kent armstrong mag pu on the end of fb into sadowsky preamp, into homemade poplar plywood antiqued tweed cab with 15" carvin and eden nc320 amp, 'fender bussman' faceplate. Can lift the amp with 1, yes, 1, finger. The official spiderman kids sneaker endpin shoe actually flashes red lights when you bounce the bass! Several hundred bucks tied up in the whole rig, but already made tens of dollars using it. The prayer flags prove I'm on the Dalai Lama's junkmail list.......
