Hi there Ray,

I use a '83 p bass and am working on my funk and slap technique right now. I feel it is quite difficult to get a consistent punchy sound out of the E string when double thumbing and was wondering whether you had any advice? even EQ'd to drop out the mids and enhance the highs I only seem to be able to achieve it on the other strings but the E tasks me...

Make sure your strings aren't dead. How is your action? There are several factors involved in getting a consistent tone and action.

Yes, part of it was my technique, maybe strings need a change, but the p doesnt cut through the mix well either for slap... had my guitarist telling me to change basses when we were rehearsing the other night. Bought a stingray and its got the sound I want. Bright, crisp but still has that bottom end. fantastic bass.
