4/4 bass string length

Hi all,
I have recently made a washtub bass.
I wanted to fit a double bass string to it but were unsure about length, I didnt want to buy one and find it is to short.
What is the wound length of a 4/4 double bass string.

Probably around 55 inches.
The scale itself is around 43 inches, plus about 1 foot divided between the area under the bridge (down to the tailpiece) and at the machines.
This is a rough estimation, not an actual measurement, but it should be fairly good.
