7710's on Shen Willow?

Hey guys-

I picked up my Shen 3/4 SB200 (flatback gamba) last year and its had mittels on it since I got it. I don't really dig the scooped sound of mittels and I'd like to go elsewhere string-wise...thinking about 7710's? I'd like to keep the tension about the same, a little more doesn't bother me too much. Thanks- Will

I've never thought of Spiro Mittels as a having a scooped sound, they've always seemed to have a fairly pronounced mid-range, to my ears anyway. What sort of tone are you looking for?

I have a hard time amplifying the bass with the mittels...there is alot of low end and that present high end. They are quite punchy unamplified but I think the low end of the mittels makes it harder than it might be with obligatos string.

Sound wise, I am just going for something nice and punchy. (Ron Carter ish)

I never thought that I would ever put LaBella tapewounds on my bass...but I did. For my bass they're perfect. I'm not a big fan of the Ron amplified sound but I don't get very much of that at all with my setup. Full Circle into an AI Clarus and a Wizzy 10. Not saying that you'll like them but unfortunately there's only one way to tell. I found mine lightly used in the TB classifieds.
