Another "What strings to get" Thread...

Hello all,

I'm new here...and I'd first like to say that I think you have a very nice forum. I'm sorry if someone has asked for a similar combination of things before...I did some digging, but didn't quite get the answers I'd hoped from that.

I used to play db back in high school (about 10 years back) and I am getting back into it now. I have been playing electric bass and guitar now for 15 years. My new (to me) is a blond 60's Kay 3/4 and it's currently strung up with uber cheap Mathias Thoma strings.

The bass is set with fairly low action, and I tend to prefer lower string tensions. I don't mind if the strings are physically bigger, just not crazy for high tension. For what it's worth I play a 45-125 DR Hi-Beam electric set on a fender scale bass. I'm planning on playing a 50/50 mix of arco/pizz. I'm not planning on playing acoustically for shows... I'll be using this for home play and recording, so volume and projection isn't a huge issue. I tend to prefer darker warm tones to bright ones though I do want to make sure there is enough definition in the tone. I would like to be able to get some thump out of her when I dig in as well.

I'd like to not spend a fortune if i don't have to, but I'd prefer to get the tone that I want out of my bass. I can't really afford to spend more than once right now though.

Thank you in advance for any and all help and reccomendations. It is much appreciated.
